I know this a great beginning for all of us in Africa. I am so glad that we are seeing the need to rise up and take our life in our hands, the need to be responsible and to take charge, the need to solve our own problems by ourselves, and the need to be innovative and creative.

We have stayed in darkness for long and it is time to rise and shine especially in the area of mathematics and its application. We are faced with a lot of challenges in Africa and we have seen many areas in the real world that mathematics can be a tool to guide policy and inform decision making in various countries in Africa. There myriad of disciplines that mathematics can be very useful, like climate, ecology, epidemics, banking, finance, renewable energy, conservation, poverty, agriculture, food, economics, and many others. We have got the expertise and wherewithal to bring solution to many of the problems facing the continent of Africa. It is time to take our space in the sand of time and revolutionalise the great continent of Africa. We are strong, innovative, reliable, determined, focused, and creative.

We must all be ready and prepared to make use of the platform ASIAM has made available in Africa to collaborate, network and provide long lasting capacity building in industrial and applied mathematics in each region. Our collective journey ahead is not just about advancing mathematical theory but also about unlocking the potential of industrial and applied mathematics to address the most pressing challenges of our continent and beyond.

Mathematics is more than an academic discipline; it is a powerful tool for change, a language of creativity and innovation that transcends borders. From the cities of innovation to the remote corners of Africa, mathematics holds the potential to spark progress, fuel industry, and transform societies. Key Priorities for ASIAM:

1. Empowering Women in STEM: A Catalyst for Change
   We must champion a mathematics community where the voices of women are not only heard but celebrated. Through mentorship, scholarships, and innovative initiatives, ASIAM will build a robust ecosystem that empowers women to become leaders in STEM fields, particularly in industrial and applied mathematics. We will create pathways for young girls across Africa to envision themselves as mathematicians, researchers, and innovators, ultimately driving an inclusive revolution in mathematics.
2. “Miss Mathematics Africa”: A Global Platform for Women in Mathematics
   We will launch the Miss Mathematics Africa platform, a pioneering initiative to recognize and celebrate the achievements of exceptional young women in mathematics. This platform will serve as a beacon of inspiration, motivating the next generation of African mathematicians to not only excel academically but to become global leaders who will redefine the impact of mathematics in Africa and the world.
3. Building African Journals of Excellence: Shaping Global Discourse
   ASIAM will play a pivotal role in fostering the creation of African journals of excellence in applied and industrial mathematics. By supporting and nurturing these platforms, we will ensure that Africa’s groundbreaking research takes its rightful place in the global scientific discourse. Our journals will become synonymous with innovation, rigor, and the advancement of mathematics in solving real-world challenges, from sustainable development to technological breakthroughs.
