N’GUÉRÉKATA Award for Excellence in Mathematics
The N’GUÉRÉKATA Award for Excellence in Mathematics is a prestigious prize recognizing outstanding mathematical contributions made by African scientists working either within the continent or abroad. Established to honor the legacy of Professor Gaston Mandata N’guérékata, the award celebrates excellence in both pure and applied mathematics, as well as related disciplines such as probability and statistics.
Professor Gaston Mandata N’guérékata, a distinguished mathematician from the Central African Republic, is a globally renowned scholar whose groundbreaking work in almost automorphy has fundamentally advanced this mathematical discipline. With over 300 publications, 14 books, and numerous prestigious awards, his career is a testament to the power of mathematical inquiry and its applications in solving real-world problems.
The award aims to inspire and recognize African mathematical talent, fostering a culture of research excellence on the continent and beyond.
- Frequency: Biennial (Every two years)
- Prize Amount: $3,000 USD and a certificate of excellence
- Eligibility:
- African scientists working and living in Africa, or African scientists working abroad
- Contributions in pure or applied mathematics, probability, or statistics.
- Self-nominations and nominations by jury members are not considered
Selection is based on scientific merit, with the evaluation conducted by a distinguished jury of international mathematicians. Candidates are evaluated on the impact and relevance of their work in the context of mathematics and its applications.
